STORY SCOTLAND

About Story Scotland

A better way into Scotland’s history.

Story Scotland turns the journey you are already making into a historically grounded day—connecting people and events to real places without flattening them into folklore.

01

Every stop is selected

Places are included because the evidence makes them meaningful to a story, not because an algorithm found a nearby attraction.

02

Every claim is sourced

We favour official custodians, museums, archives and heritage bodies. Source links remain on each place page so you can explore further.

03

Uncertainty stays visible

Tradition, later commemoration and surviving historical evidence are not the same thing. Where the distinction matters, we say so.

04

The route must work in real life

Visit duration, travel time, seasonal access and safety constraints shape the itinerary. Wild sites are labelled and warnings appear before directions.

Our editorial promise

Useful enough to travel with. Honest enough to trust.

Visitor details change. Each researched place carries a checked date, but opening hours, tickets, weather and access should always be confirmed with the official site before travelling.

Story Scotland does not treat the right of responsible access as permission to park unsafely, cross restricted ground or ignore livestock and local communities. Where a site has no formal visitor infrastructure, the route says so.

Personal itineraries are suggestions, not guided tours. The underlying places and historical relationships are curated; the final selection is shaped around your route and time.
