The story

St Andrews Harbour & Pier

Working harbour

The harbour gives the best view back to the cathedral precinct and a living university tradition on selected Sundays.

Looking back at the town

Pilgrimage, fishing and university traditions meet at the harbour. In university term time, students may take part in the Sunday Pier Walk after chapel; present it as something a visitor might encounter, not a guaranteed performance.

What to look for while you're here

  • The view back towards the cathedral ruins.
  • The long stone pier and working harbour.

Before you go

  • Exposed in strong wind.
  • Use the road via the Pends and Abbey Walk for a step-free approach instead of the cliff steps.
