Timespan interprets the history of Helmsdale and the surrounding Strath of Kildonan. The museum connects clearance from inland settlements with the planned coastal communities, fishing and new livelihoods imposed or developed after removal.
Reconstructing the lost township
Digital and museum interpretation reconstructs a pre-Clearances settlement and draws on local archaeology and archives. The reconstruction is a research-led way of seeing a dispersed landscape, not a claim that an intact township survives inside the museum.
A living archive
Timespan combines heritage collections with contemporary art and community work. That continuing local voice matters for a subject whose effects include emigration, land ownership and cultural displacement long after the first evictions.
