What we collect, and what we don’t.

The short version

No accounts, no cookies, no advertising.

You can read every place, story, route and guide on this site without telling us anything. We do not ask you to sign in, we do not set cookies, and we do not sell or share anything for advertising.

Because we set no cookies, there is no cookie banner to click through. If that ever changes, this page changes first.

Planning a day

Your journey details stay in the web address.

When you build a day, everything you chose — where you are starting, where you are finishing, which stories you picked, the date and the pace — is carried in the page’s web address. That is why you can bookmark a day or send it to someone. It also means we are not storing it: there is no saved-trips database, because there are no accounts.

While you are filling in the planner, your part-finished answers are kept in your own browser’s session storage so a reload does not lose them. They are deleted when you close the tab, and they never leave your device.

If you use the “Near me” button, your browser asks your permission first and we use the coordinates once, to work out which town you are in. We do not keep them.

Who else sees anything

The services behind the day.

Building a real day out means asking a few specialist services real questions. Each one sees only what it needs:

• Vercel hosts the site and provides its privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics and performance measurements. It sees the usual things a web server sees, including your IP address.
• OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) receives the place name you type, or the coordinates from “Near me”, when we need to turn it into a location.
• The Met Office receives the coordinates of where your day starts, to return a forecast.
• openrouteservice receives the start and finish of a route when you use Along My Route, to work out real driving detours.
• Anthropic receives the shortlist of places we have already chosen, your travel preferences, and anything you typed into the optional “anything else I should know?” box, so it can write the day up. Please do not put anything sensitive in that box.

Opening directions hands off to Google Maps, and the maps on place pages are embedded from OpenStreetMap. Once you follow those, you are on their sites under their terms.

Feedback

We do not ask who you are.

The feedback form does not have a name or email field, so we cannot contact you and cannot connect what you send to anything else. What you write goes to a private spreadsheet we use as research notes. As the form says, we will not publish your words or your name without asking.

We briefly note the IP address a submission came from, in memory only, so one person cannot flood the form. It is not written down and disappears within minutes.
